New Beginnings Church started just as many other churches started, with one obedient servant opening up his home for Tuesday
night bible study. What started out as Christian family fellowship evolved into a need for the community.
God spoke in a wave of confirmations that this small in-home ministry was to expand in miraculous ways. In September of
1998, New Beginnings Church was founded. That same month a brand new community center was having it's finishing touches made
in the city of Winona. As man put up doors in that building, God opened them up. New Beginnings Church now had a place to
hold service.
We attracted people of various backgrounds, age groups and denominations. Pastor Green taught about the unity of the body.
He showed us that a chord of three strands was not easily broken. Together we praised God, as he continued to open doors and
opportunities. We were able to rent another room for Sunday school and fellowship use.
In August of 2000, New Beginnings Church was welcomed to share a sanctuary with St. Paul Episcopal church, since our worship
times did not conflict. We were also allowed full use of the facilities and our own classrooms and storage space.
Under the tutelage of our pastor we were encouraged by the Word of God. He challenged us with messages about living for
the Glory of God. His words reflected the very contents of God’s heart. He pleaded with the Church to “Get up
under the cover” and to “Get out of the Garbage,“ and to let go of the baggage in our suitcases. He reminded
us through illustrations, demonstrations and conversations.
He took the time to embody the word of God in the theatrical portrayal of bible stories on Pastoral Sundays. His life was
on display for all to see, to encourage and correct. A lot happened in this time. We developed Women’s Sunday, and Men’s
Sunday. We got together and worshiped the living God. Our lived would forever be changed. For two years we fellowshipped beside
that body of believers, praising God all the while for what He had allowed us to have.
In the summer of 2002, New Beginnings Church moved to our current location downtown 165 East 3rd Street Winona.
At that time, we had been able to rent one of the store fronts to hold our services in. This allowed us to have more freedom
with the set up of musical and seating equipment, as well as special service times and events. It was here that we were refreshed
with the sermon series “from the head to the heart” We soon found out that our salvation was eighteen inches away
--the distance between our brains and our hearts. It is there that God surveys!
It was only a few months later when the storefront connected to us was vacated. God provided for us a place to hold more
Sunday school classes and fellowship aside from the main sanctuary. New Beginnings was standing on its own two feet. But Pastor
Warren Green knew that God was not quite finished yet! He declared 165 East 3rd would completely belong to New
Beginnings Church, not because of what the church had earned, or even by what the members believed, but because of what God
could do!
.
In June of 2005, God expanded New Beginnings Church's perimeters once again! Because of the consistent and persistent faith
of Pastor Green, and the vision God gave him, New Beginnings was able to do what no man in his own understanding thought was
possible for a small congregation. Since the beginning, New Beginnings was never founded or advanced by the power of the quantity
of members, but the quality of The One and Only God. It was by His unfailing promise and provision that New Beginnings Church
is now owner of the property 165 east 3rd Street in it's entirety. (6 rooms in addition to two, three bedroom apartments located
upstairs).
For a season, God gave to New Beginnings a Prophetess, who upheld the ministry of God through encouragement, and truth.
She stood shoulder to shoulder with the pastor through some of the most spiritually challenging times. By the grace of God
she shared the burden of the Gospel, and distributed to all of the members of New Beginnings to blessings of “Taking
God for his word!“ Time continued on, and so did the vision of God. Where there was a need, there was also provision
for that need. The question flew up to the Heavens: What do we do to honor you with these gifts that we have been given? God
answered. In the year 2007 the kitchen project began. Over the next two years God used his servants to turn an abandoned storage
house into a fully functioning residence for homeless men. In the early awakenings of 2009, that dream became a reality, Fresh
Start of Winona emerged from the running over favor from the Lord.
Now, here it is, 2010. 2011 is drawing near. Take a few minutes to reflect on your time at New Beginnings. This is the
place that you found rivers of life through a personal relationship with the Lord. Your heads and hearts have been graced
with abundance. This teaching, lead by example ministry. We have all been challenged and encouraged to succeed, to dare to
dream; and to be wise enough to believe. Every day is a brand New Beginning.
Praise God what what He has done!
But know this: this is not the end of the story.
